How to compress video online without installing an app
Learn how online video compression works, which settings to choose, and how to keep videos clear while making them easier to share.
Start with the sharing goal
The best compression setting depends on where the video needs to go. A short clip for chat can use stronger compression than a portfolio video or product demo.
MediaReady keeps the main choice simple: Light, Balanced, Strong, or Maximum. You can still use target size mode when a platform has a strict file limit.
- Use Light when quality matters most.
- Use Balanced for everyday sharing.
- Use Strong when the file is still too large.
- Use Maximum only when smallest size matters more than detail.
Understand size, resolution, and bitrate
Video size is mostly controlled by bitrate, duration, resolution, frame rate, and audio. A one minute video at 1080p usually needs more data than a 720p video to look equally clean.
Heavy compression often reduces both bitrate and resolution. This is normal. A lower resolution video with enough bitrate can look better than a 4K video starved of bitrate.
Use exact target size only when needed
For most creators, a profile like Balanced or Strong is easier than guessing a file size. Exact target size is useful when you need a hard limit, such as a 16 MB WhatsApp-ready file.
If a large 4K video is forced under a tiny target, quality may reduce. In that case, try a larger target or use a profile compression goal instead.
Keep privacy and cleanup in mind
Upload tools should treat files as temporary. MediaReady processes files for compression and keeps the workflow account-free.
Files are temporary and are scheduled for automatic deletion within 24 hours, so you should download the compressed result when it is ready.
